Haast's eagle, New Zealand giant eagle

Haast's eagle was the largest eagle ever to have lived and is the only eagle in the world ever to have been top predator of its ecosystem.

Statistics
Weight: approximately 10-13kg
Wingspan: up to 2.6m for a large female.
The legs were very strong but the wings relatively short.
Talons: up to 75mm long

How it Hunted
Research suggests that the bird was a forest eagle that waited on high branches for prey to pass by and swept down between trees at great speed to strike its prey. It was not an eagle that soared in thermal updrafts.
